How AtMail works as an Email Server
AtMail can function as a complete Email Server system supporting SMTP/POP3/IMAP and SSL. The administrator can manage user accounts via an easy to use WebAdmin control panel, with optional automatic account created available for public users.
Users can access their email account via any desktop POP3/IMAP client, using the WebMail interface of AtMail or the provided Wireless plugin for PDA's & mobile phones. AtMail Email Server can be configured to run as a complete messaging solution for an ISP, large corporation, or small business.
User settings, Address Book, Scheduler tasks, profiles and user authentication information are stored in a MySQL database. Messages received by AtMail Email Server are stored on the file system in Maildir format. POP3, IMAP, and WebMail retrieve the messages from the Maildir database.

The AtMail Email Server includes an innovative user-interface for WebMail - The mail server software is designed for high-performance, easy administration, and advanced Groupware features.
- The mail-server mode of AtMail Email Server includes support for SMTP, POP3 & IMAP protocols. Built on open-source the backend mail server is powered by the Exim SMTP server and Courier for POP3/IMAP support. MySQL is used as the database backend for user-accounts, email-forwarding, aliases, autoreply's and more. The Mail Server application is presented with the intuitive and easy to use AtMail Webadmin and WebMail interfaces, making open-source easy.
Complete Mail Server Support
- AtMail Email Server can be used as a lightweight Exchange alternative. Users of the mail server can share address-book, calendar and task data with other users on the system. Outlook support is included to synchronize data from the WebMail server and desktop-clients. Use the system as a complete Exchange alternative running under a stable Unix OS built on open-source reliability and security.
Groupware Server
- The mail server mode of AtMail Email Server includes the complete WebMail interface of AtMail - With the ability for users to change account passwords, specify autoreply messages, email forwarding rules via the WebMail interface. Email-messages via WebMail are read natively via the maildir format to increase system performance.
WebMail Server included
- The AtMail Email Server can scan incoming and outgoing messages for viruses, protecting user accounts from infection. Email that contains viruses (as attachments, even if compressed) are automatically deleted from the system. Each message received via the SMTP server can be filtered by the Anti-Virus plugin and mail delivered to the users mailbox if the email is clean. Using the AtMail WebAdmin you can configure the Anti-Virus feature and define settings. All viruses are logged in the database, allowing you to monitor the system status.
Email Server Anti-Virus Support
- AtMail includes a comprehensive email filter powered by SpamAssassin. Other features include Bayesian (learning) filters, DNSBL support, URL checking in messages against blacklists, auto-whitelist for trusted senders from recipients email history and Webadmin reporting utilities. Protect your end user mailboxes with AtMail's Anti-Spam function.

- The administration of the mail-server is made easy by a WebAdmin control-panel. Allowing the administrator of the service to add, delete, modify, migrate, and purge-user accounts. System aliases, graphical log statistics of mail-server usage ( sent/received message, AV/spam reports, user-logins via POP3/IMAP and more ).

- Email messages are stored by AtMail Email Server in Maildir format, greatly increasing performance over traditional mailbox storage. With delivery handled by binaries compiled from C source, the overhead of invoking processes is reduced, conserving system resources.
Maildir support
- AtMail Email Server uses an SQL database backend to store all user data, including settings, address-book, calendar, authentication, filters, spam-filter settings, and more. The source code of AtMail Email Server can be easily modified to query an existing SQL database for authentication or integration with existing services. AtMail's native SQL support is via MySQL.
