If you’re self-isolating at home, and wanting a break from your activity reports and Zoom calls, we invite you to grab a coffee and spend three minutes with our VP Sales, Americas, Miguel Garcia…
Transcript:
Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Miguel Garcia. I manage sales for the Americas, and that includes from Canada down to Chile.
Most of my experience, almost 30 years, has been actually on the operator side. So I worked on the telecom side – mostly on mobile, but I did work also quite a bit on deploying fibre, broadband, just basic telephony, so I’ve been in telecom most of my career. Working with atmail was a switch, which was very interesting, but the nice thing about that is I have a strong understanding of what the operators are looking for, having been with them for so long.
Which telcos did you work for?
Some of the big operators that I’ve worked for in the past include Bell South, which is now part of AT&T. I worked with AT&T also for a while. Telefonica Spain, that was another operator I worked several years with. Digicel, which is very large in the community. Tigo, which is part of the Millicom group, I also worked with [Millicom] for a while as well, as some other smaller operators, so yeah I’ve been able to work with some of the largest telecom operators in the world, as well some of the smaller guys.
What do you do?
For atmail, I manage sales, but I also spend a good part of my time talking to potential customers and educating them about all the advantages of atmail and all the services that we offer them, and those advantages obviously is to help them both on their top and bottom line.
Do telcos appreciate email?
A lot of people don’t realise the value of email, right, it’s almost pushed to the side. But the fact of the matter is that email continues to grow in this day and age. I try to bring that message to the operators, to explain that email actually gives them quite a bit of potential. It creates loyalty with their current customers.
Why is email not appreciated?
It’s just lack of knowledge, and that’s where the education part comes in. And that’s something that I try to show to them, that this is a huge opportunity. It has a lot of synergies with what they’re doing today, in trying to get into this space, to be able to give their consumers something that they obviously value.
Are the Americas different?
The needs and the interests are very different we found both in North and South America. In North America, it’s a lot more competitive. Tier 2 tier 3 operators that we’re working with are more conservative, so it’s kind of a different type of market that we have to spend a little bit more time educating. South America it’s actually a different story.
Why is South America different?
There are fewer operators, but still very competitive in their markets. They have three to four operators in most of the countries, but they’re held by large operators. There’s very few small operators in that region, so most of them are tier ones. And they are looking for better solutions than they have today. They seem to be a little bit underserved in that area, in that market. And that’s a huge opportunity for us. Most of the guys that do serve them tend to be Microsoft 365, and they don’t tend to serve them the best way either. So, that gives us a huge opportunity with the larger operators, south-of-the-border.
How does atmail help loyalty?
The way that we would help our customers create loyalty is straight and simple. It is by offering the best software solution possible and by supporting it the best way possible. By doing that, loyalty will be created.
It’s just like any sort of type of relationship. If you have a good relationship with someone and someone is always there, and fixes your problems, and helps you. As long as we continue to do that and give the right and best solution, we’ll create lots of loyalty.
