Welcome atmail 7.5.1

Atmail is pleased to announce the general availability of version 7.5.1.

Version 7.5.1 includes multiple product improvements and bug fixes, including two major changes that significantly improve performance: minification of JavaScript and Cascading Style Sheet files and improvement to how log files display in the WebAdmin interface.

MINIFICATION

MINIFY JS AND CSS FILES TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE

Minification reduces the size and number of JS and CSS assets in the user interface, improving the performance and maintainability of the atmail Webmail, WebAdmin and Mobile interfaces.

Size is reduced through the removal of white spaces, line breaks and unnecessary code.  Concatenation combines multiple files into individual files that are then cached on both the backend and front end.

Our tests saw the time to load a page decrease by 50%! Learn more about the process and effects of minification in our previous post.

WEBADMIN SERVICE LOGS

IMPROVE LOG TABLE PERFORMANCE BY REDUCING THE DATA DENSITY FOR LARGE INSTALLATIONS

Logs are now cached for five minutes within the WebAdmin dashboard.  Additionally, Admins can now set four values to control log retention and behaviour under Settings > Logs.

WARNING

Version 7.5.1 contains significant changes around how assets are included across the different user interface modules (web user interface, mobile user interface, and admin interface). Javascript and CSS files are now compressed and combined together for performance gain.

If you have customized your interface either by adding or changing these files, please ensure you have all the appropriate back-ups prior to updating. Post-update action may be required in case of added files.

In order to help minimise display issues in line with these modifications, we have implemented “browser cache defeat” – however, if your customers experience oddities in the display, please advise them to clear their browser cache.
