Atmail welcomes Virgin Media email customers
Earlier this year, Atmail entered into an agreement to acquire the Virgin Media O2 consumer email service and provide a long-term home for customers who want to keep their existing email address.
Following months of preparation and close collaboration between Virgin Media O2, Atmail, Junara and the wider project team, the first customer migrations are now underway. This marks an important milestone in the transition of one of the UK’s largest and most recognisable consumer email services.
Junara, is one of Atmail’s consumer email brands and is providing the long-term home for customers who choose to retain their existing Virgin Media email address. Alongside secure email services, Junara offers specialist support, including phone-based assistance, helping customers continue using an email address they have relied on for many years.
A responsible path forward
Across the telecommunications industry, more operators are reviewing whether consumer email remains core to their business. These services continue to require investment in security, compliance, infrastructure and customer support, even as many operators have stopped issuing new email accounts and usage continues to decline.
For operators like Virgin Media O2, transitioning an established email service to a specialist provider provides a responsible path forward. It allows them to focus on their core connectivity services while ensuring customers who still rely on email can continue using the same addresses.
Atmail has evolved alongside email itself. We started with on-premises software in the 1990s, moved into hosted services, and then built cloud-native SaaS platforms with a global footprint. We now bring that experience directly to consumer email, consolidating services from multiple telcos onto our scalable service for established and legacy brands across several countries.
, Chief Executive Officer of Atmail Group, explains:
“Email remains one of the most important parts of a customer’s digital life. These accounts often contain years of personal history and serve as a trusted identity across countless online services. We are proud to have been selected by Virgin Media O2 to provide long-term stewardship of these iconic email brands. Our focus is simple: preserve what matters to customers, maintain continuity and ensure these services remain available and supported for many years to come.”
Looking ahead
This milestone demonstrates that there is a practical and customer-focused way for telecommunications providers to step back from legacy email services without leaving customers behind. As more operators reassess the role of consumer email, we expect to see growing interest in models that preserve longstanding customer identities while allowing telecommunications providers to focus on the services that matter most to their future growth.
We are pleased to welcome Virgin Media O2 email customers to Junara and look forward to supporting them as part of our growing family of consumer email customers.
